Spring anime: Allison to Lillia

This is one of the animes I've been following since the start of the spring season. It has offered some genuine surprises in terms of story development I must say. It starts with the following setting: In a world with only two countries that are at war with each other, two young people learn of a treasure that can end the war for good and set out to find it. So I really thought that this would the the plot all the way through the anime, but boy was I wrong.
Already in the 4th episode, the treasure is recovered and the war ends (with no aftermath by the way) and the two protagonists do away with the a generic bad guy in about 4 seconds.

This brings me to the real issue I have with this anime. Sometimes I can't help but feel that I'm watching a children's show. So many illogical things happen, and so many things are left unexplained that it's ridiculous. There are several aspects of the show that lend to this feeling of watching an anime that is aimed at an audience who doesn't question even the most gaping plot holes or get an iffy feeling from the overly stereotyped way the bad guys act.

Other times, I find the anime genuintely enjoyable and fun to watch, which is why I haven't dropped it yet. I have a feeling that it's because I like Allison alot. There's something about her character that's very pleasant and that I personally feel is reason enough to endure all the less enjoyable aspects of the anime and just keep watching.

Creationism and the World Conspiracy

So I've been noticing a trend amongst young-earth creationists, and when I sat down and thought about it I realized that there is a thing which must necessarily be true for all creationists, besides believing that science is complete bullshit.

The one unifying characteristic from which all the other creationist oddities are spawned is of course the fact that their brains have malfunctioned at some point in their life. The thing I noticed is that as a result hereof, creationists must believe in a huge global conspiracy to undermine the truth and persecute believers worldwide. How else would they make sense of their belief that scientists are intentionally lying to cover up the supposed overabundance of evidence for a young Earth? How else would they explain why creationism isn't being taught in schools instead of evolution? And as soon as I, with this thought in mind, browsed through the videos of a few of my favourite creationists on youtube, my suspicions were confirmed.

When you're looking for it, it's really not that hard to find; Loads of videos supposedly revealing "secret meetings" between the president and various officials, as well as many 9/11 "inside job" videos. There was even one video blaming the earthquakes in China on a research facility designed to study the ionosphere. I don't think the creationists even care WHAT the agenda of these conspiracies are, as long as they prove that there ARE conspiracies.

So besides falling under the category of close-minded and moronic people, I can now also group them together with the nutjob conspiracy theorists without a problem.

But this really just reveals yet another characteristic that I was already aware of; That is, their extremely paranoid idea that atheists are out to get them. I often see creationists speculating in all seriousness, that if atheists came to power there would be another holocaust of all non-atheists. Yep, that's really what I've heard them say! And I am not just talking about a few instances. Basically every time a rambling creationist starts talking about atheism and the atheist "agenda" (yeah, I know...) the following atheist stereotype emerges:

Creationist idea of a "typical" atheist
-Has no sense of moral, since we derive our morals from God, and atheists have rejected God.
-Hates God, and therefore hates his followers.
-Wants to "act like the animals". This involves swearing, having sex all the time, taking drugs, and killing everyone who annoys them. (Show me just ONE ANIMAL who acts in such a demented way, please! In fact, just show me an animal that swears)
-Has no hope, since he's gonna die and be nothing.

Bear in mind, though, that creationists aren't totally unreasonable! They will usually acknowledge, that there are a few atheists out there who diverge from the norm.

Well I could go on, but now I think I'll take a shot of LSD, rape a young boy and kill his parents. So long!
